Nick Cave’s second novel comes to the small screen.
This one kind of snuck up on me, to be honest, and I’m a big Nick Cave fan. Having said that, the novel The Death Of Bunny Munro has sat on my To Read pile since it was released in 2009 – maybe I should remedy that before this six episode miniseries drops.
The Death Of Bunny Munro Trailer
What’s the plot?
Matt Smith is the titular Bunny Munro, a middle-aged door-to-door salesman struggling to take care of his young son, Bunny Junior, after the death of his wife. Bunny Senior is an incorrigible if low-rent lothario, which may have had something to do with his wife’s suicide. With social services breathing down his neck, can Bunny turn over a new leaf, or is he doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past? Given Nick Cave‘s generally pessimistic nature, I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
The Death Of Bunny Munro is adapted by Pete Jackson (not that one) and all six episodes are directed by Isabella Eklöf. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are on music duties, as you’d expect.

What’s the vibe?
If it manages to strike a tonal balance between black comedy and pathos, this thing could really kick some goals, emotionally speaking. God help it if it doesn’t, though. Hopefully it’s successful enough for some lunatic to try and mount an adaptation of And The Ass Saw The Angel – that’s something I’d like to see.
