More than a decade after it first became one of the defining songs of modern metalcore, The Ghost Inside have given fans a fresh look at ‘Engine 45’, releasing a professionally filmed live performance captured at Jera On Air 2025 in Ysselsteyn, Netherlands.
The new The Ghost Inside video arrives as the Californian outfit prepares to return to Europe for an extensive run of festival appearances and headline dates, reminding fans why ‘Engine 45’ remains one of the band’s most beloved live staples.
Originally released in 2012 as the lead single from the band’s third studio album, Get What You Give, the track quickly became an anthem within the metalcore scene thanks to its emotionally charged lyrics, soaring vocals and message of perseverance in the face of adversity.
A Step forward for TGI
Produced by Jeremy McKinnon of A Day To Remember, Get What You Give marked a major step forward for The Ghost Inside, combining melodic hardcore with crushing breakdowns and heartfelt songwriting.
The album was also dedicated to the memory of Ryan Vigil, the brother of vocalist Jonathan Vigil, adding another layer of emotional weight to the release.
Tracks including ‘White Light’, ‘Dark Horse’, ‘Outlive’ and ‘Engine 45’ helped cement the record as a fan favourite, while Australian listeners embraced it wholeheartedly, the album finished No. 3 in triple j’s former short.fast.loud listener poll for the Best Album of 2012, sitting behind Australian heavyweights Parkway Drive and The Amity Affliction.
The timing of the new live video feels particularly fitting. Few songs in The Ghost Inside’s catalogue have carried as much significance over the years, especially following the band’s devastating 2015 tour bus crash and their remarkable return to the stage. While ‘Engine 45’ was written years before that tragedy, its themes of resilience, refusing to surrender and continuing to fight have taken on an even deeper meaning for both the band and their fans.
The release also comes just ahead of another busy European run, with The Ghost Inside set to perform at festivals including Rockstadt Extreme Fest, Brutal Assault, Summer Breeze and Reload Festival, alongside a string of headline club shows across the continent (per Lamb Goat).
More than fourteen years after Get What You Give first arrived, ‘Engine 45’ continues to stand as one of modern metalcore’s defining anthems, and judging by this latest live performance, it still hits just as hard.
