The Ironheart Trailer Promises Plenty of Armoured Action

Share

Tony Stark gets an heir and the MCU gets a new hero in the upcoming Disney+ series.

You may recall getting the briefest of glimpses of Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever back in 2022. Now she’s back in the six-part miniseries, Ironheart.

Ironheart Trailer

What’s the plot?

Pretty straight forward, based on the limited production info available. Young genius Riri Williams builds herself a pretty schmick suit of powered armour, and gets tangled up with sometime villain, sometime antihero The Hood. That’s about your lot.

What’s interesting is that Ryan Coogler, he of Black Panther, Creed, and Sinners fame, is on Executive producing duties, and that guy simply doesn’t miss. The series is created by Chinaka Hodge, who’s a bit of a polymath. In addition to being a playwright, screenwriter, poet, and educator, she’s a founding member of hip hop outfit The Getback with Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal.

Who’s in it?

  • Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart, an MIT student and genius inventor (the Marvel Universe has an awful lot of those). Riri cooks up her own Iron Man-inspired suit of armour, which should be worth at least a few course credits.
  • Anthony Ramos as Parker Robbins/The Hood. The In the Heights star is playing a guy whose powers are rooted in black magic, setting up a nice technology vs mysticism binary. In the comics, he was a petty criminal who mugged a demon for his magic hood, hence the name.
  • Lyric Ross as Natalie Washington, Riri’s BFF.
  • Alden Ehrenreich as Joe McGillicuddy
  • Manny Montana as Cousin John
  • Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington
  • Anji White as Ronnie Williams, Riri’s mother.
  • Jim Rash as the Dean of MIT, a role he last played in Captain America: Civil War.
  • Shea Couleé as Slug, which is an unfortunate nickname.

We’re also getting Regan Aliyah, Harper Anthony, Zoe Terakes, Shakira Barrera, Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola, Sonia Denis, Paul Calderón, Cree Summer, and Sacha Baron Cohen in undisclosed roles. Very nice.

When’s it out?

Ironheart hits Disney+ on June 26 with a three episode premiere, with the back three dropping weekly thereafter.

What’s the vibe?

Putting aside that so many MCU series (and Star Wars series, and… seriously, get it together, Disney) fall completely apart in the back half, this looks pretty cool to us. But did you know this isn’t Ironheart’s first live action appearance? No, we’re not talking about Wakanda Forever – check this out.
