Star Wars returns to the screen soon, and it looks like it’s bringing the usual menagerie of critters for the Mandalorian and Grogu to contend with.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu is a load-bearing instalment for the whole franchise. How audiences react to it will certainly dictate how Star Wars continues going forward. If it underperforms, expect Star Wars to make itself comfortable on Disney+ for the foreseeable future, even with the big screen instalment Star Wars: Starfighter currently in production. It all depends on what people want to see in their Star Wars and, more importantly, where they want to see it.
Judging by the latest TV spot to drop, director Jon Favreau and company are betting that folks really wanna see a bunch of weird beasties in their Star Wars: alien dogs, ripped Hutts, and other exotic denizens of the galaxy.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu TV Spot
What’s the plot?
Nothing really new here, but for the record:
The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu. Directed by Jon Favreau, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu also stars Sigourney Weaver and is produced by Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson.
Ah, like the plot matters.
Who’s in it?
- Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, AKA The Mandalorian: veteran bounty hunter and single father.
- Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, leader of the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers and former Rebel Alliance pilot.
- Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt’s son and apparently ripped AF.
- Jonny Coyne as an Imperial Warlord, leader of a contingent of Imperial hold outs.
- Steve Blum as Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios: A Lasat captain in the New Republic who originally cropped up in the animated series, Star Wars: Rebels.
Plus, Mando co-writer Dave Filoni is back as New Republic X-wing pilot Trapper Wolf from The Mandalorian, and Martin Scorsese makes a cameo appearance as the voice of a shopkeeper.
When’s it out?
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is in cinemas from May 21, 2026.
What’s the vibe?
I mean, sure – I’m in. Give me some weird aliens and some spaceship fights and some hazy mysticism and I’ll generally be a happy camper unless you drop the ball completely (and it’s not like the ball hasn’t been fumbled before. But it’s making all the right noises so far…
