The Punisher: On Last Kill premieres on Disney+ on May 12.
The Punisher is having a big, big year. Not only is he appearing alongside our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man in Brand New Day, which means he’s co-starring in the most-watched movie trailer of all time, but he’s getting his very own Disney+ hour long special. Perhaps that explains why he was too busy to put in an appearance in season two of Daredevil: Born Again, a fact that escaped neither my notice, nor the Kingpin’s:
Go on, you tell him he spelled Jon Bernthal’s name wrong.
But that hour long Punisher film now has a title and a release date: The Punisher: One Last Kill, which premieres on Disney+ on May 12.
Bernthal will reprise his role – can we say signature role yet? – as special forces soldier turned vigilante Frank Castle in a story that reportedly finds him trying to live a peaceful life (no, Frank) but finding himself caught up in “unexpected conflict” (yes, Frank). Presumably, said conflict will result in him having to kill a few dozen people. It’s been rumoured that fan favourite villain Ma Gnucci may appear, but nothing official has added any weight to it.
Jason R. Moore, Roe Rancell, and Mila Jaymes co-star. Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard, Bob Marley: One Love) is on directing duties, while Green and Bernthal wrote the script together.
And that’s pretty much all we know! The Punisher did have his own solo series on Netflix back in the day, of course, and both seasons of it are now streaming on Disney+. It’s… less than stellar, mainly owing to it spending too long having Frank stand around not wanting to kill bad guys for most of the running time. Dear baby Jesus, let us not make that mistake again. We know what we’re here for.
