Zazie Beetz slaughters Satanists in the gleefully gory They Will Kill You

There’s an old axiom in horror that what you don’t see is way more scary than what you do. With its new trailer, Kirill Sokolov’s They Will Kill You kinda splits the difference and gets around one of the challenges inherent in advertising horror movies. First they warn us, “To advertise this film, we couldn’t show you the most violent parts.” Then we get treated to some spectacularly gory action – with all the gnarly bits covered by cute emojis. What’s the plot?

With scant plot details revealed as yet, all we can glean is that Zazie Beetz gets a gig as a housekeeper, and quickly comes to regret it.

Or, as the official synopsis tells us:

The film unleashes a blood-soaked, high-octane horror-action-comedy in which a young woman must survive the night at the Virgil, a demonic cult’s mysterious and twisted death-trap of a lair, before becoming their next offering in a uniquely brazen, big screen battle of epic kills and wickedly dark humor.

This one comes to us from Russian director and co-writer Kirill Sokolov, who gave us the fun Why Don’t You Just Die! back in 2018. It’s also the first film from Andy and Barbara Muschietti‘s new production shingle, Nocturna.

What’s the vibe?

Well, I’ll tell ya, all the Satanists I’ve ever met have been pretty chill, but I am a sucker for both Satanic Panic flicks and class-conscious horror, so I’m all in.
