Apparently Tom Cruise Filmed A Tiny Bit Of Star Wars: Starfighter

Tom Cruise visited the set of Star Wars: Starfighter and apparently couldn’t resist lending director Shawn Levy a hand.

Tom Cruise, man, he sure loves movies. He’s made it part of his brand – how many times has the Last Hollywood Star posted pics of himself, popcorn in hand, settling in to check out the latest blockbuster? Hell, Steven Spielberg reckons Cruise saved Hollywood, the massive box office success of Top Gun: Maverick giving a vital boost to an industry rendered almost moribund by the Covid pandemic.

He loves movies so much, in fact, that he’ll catch a helicopter to the set of Star Wars: Starfighter just to check out the production. And if director Shawn Levy could use an extra pair of hands on a camera while shooting an action scene? Well, it’d be rude not to pitch in.

And that is exactly what happened, more or less, according to an exhaustive interview with Levy in the New York Times. As Levy explains, Cruise choppered in from London to Star Wars: Starfighter‘s UK set, arriving to the strains of the Mission: Impossible theme. Cruise just wanted to watch as Levy and his crew set up a sequence involving a lightsaber battle in a boggy marsh. Levy jokingly asked Cruise if he wanted to grab a camera, apparently not getting the memo that Tom Cruise takes everything extremely seriously. Next thing you know, the Cruiser is wading into the water, framing shots.

“Now Tom Cruise is wielding a camera, ruining his very nice shoes,” Levy said. “Now when you see the movie, you’ll know that part of it was shot by Tom. I mean, how cool is that?”

In the same piece, Levy also relays that the aforementioned Steven Spielberg also swung by the set, about a week before Tom dropped by. Whether or not the ‘Berg swung a boom or something is not known at this time.

Star Wars: Starfighter is in cinemas on May 28, 2027.
