Tony Iommi Takes Fans Behind The Scenes Of His Dystopian ‘World Alone’ Video

Share

Tony Iommi has pulled back the curtain on ‘World Alone’, giving fans a look at how the Black Sabbath guitarist’s strange dystopian universe was actually put together.

Tony Iommi has shared behind the scenes footage from the making of the ‘World Alone’ music video, offering a closer look at the first single from his forthcoming solo album, ‘From The Dark’.

The footage follows the video’s July release and digs into the production behind its retro-futuristic setting, built around a character known as The Believer who finds himself trapped inside a twisted video game where survival becomes the objective.

It’s a considerably more elaborate visual world than simply sticking Iommi in a dark room with a wall of amplifiers, although the riff underneath it all remains unmistakably his.

Inside Tony Iommi’s ‘World Alone’

‘World Alone’ originally premiered on July 29th during a global streaming event in Iommi’s hometown of Birmingham, held near the Black Sabbath Bridge erected in tribute to the band.

Musically, the track pairs Iommi with Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande, who appears throughout ‘From The Dark’ and shares writing credits across the record.

Bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil complete the album lineup, while Iommi co-produced the record alongside longtime collaborator Mike Exeter.

‘It’s an album we’ve really enjoyed making. We’re not trying to prove anything — it’s a great album, it rocks!’ Iommi previously said of the record (per Blabbermouth).

And really, 21 years removed from his last solo album, proving anything would seem beside the point.

‘From The Dark’ Arrives In October

‘From The Dark’ lands October 23rd through BMG and marks Iommi’s first solo studio album since 2005.

Its eight song core tracklist includes ‘Over The Violent Sun’, ‘Black Times’, ‘Beyond The Dead’, ‘Stormwatcher’, ‘Death Wake’, ‘Return Of The Arbalist’ and closing track ‘Legacy’, alongside ‘World Alone’.

A deluxe CD edition will also include ‘Scent Of Dark’ and an extended version of ‘Deified’.

Before the album arrives, ‘World Alone’ is getting its own limited edition seven inch release on September 4th, backed by an exclusive instrumental version of the track.

Coming after Black Sabbath’s final performance at Birmingham’s ‘Back To The Beginning’ last year, Iommi’s latest chapter clearly isn’t interested in quietly living off the past.
