Trivium Announce ‘Crown In The Grave’ As Australian Tour Continues

Trivium’s first album in five years arrives in November, with its title track out ahead of tonight’s Sydney show.

Trivium have announced Crown In The Grave, their eleventh studio album, while on the road in Australia with Lamb Of God and Bleed From Within.

Due on 20 November through Roadrunner Records, the album arrives with its title track and official video out now. It follows 2021’s In The Court Of The Dragon and last year’s Struck Dead EP.

The announcement lands ahead of the co-headliners’ Sydney show at Hordern Pavilion tonight, Friday 9 October. According to Destroy All Lines’ tour listing, the Australian run concludes at Brisbane’s Riverstage on Sunday 11 October.

For the new record, bassist Paolo Gregoletto says Trivium took inspiration from Akira Kurosawa’s Throne Of Blood, with that influence extending well beyond the title track.

In an announcement statement reproduced by ThePRP, Gregoletto explains that the film sent the band further into Japanese horror and cinema from the 1950s through to the 1970s, shaping the record’s music, lyrics and visual identity.

“We also wanted the record to exist within its own world,” he says.

That approach carries into the Pavel Trebukhin-directed title-track video. The release announcement published by Metal Planet Music describes a Japanese Noh theatre-inspired, post-apocalyptic setting, with characters preparing for a confrontation inside a smoke-filled dojo.

The same announcement says the band developed the album at their own Orlando studio, The Hangar, working again with producer Josh Wilbur and bringing in Jacob Hansen to mix.

Drummer Alex Rüdinger also contributed to the songwriting, with frontman Matt Heafy saying: “Rüdi didn’t just kill it on the drums; his contributions as a writer made a huge difference.”

For Australian fans catching the final two shows, the announcement adds a new track to get acquainted with before doors open. Hordern Pavilion lists Trivium’s Sydney set for 7.45 pm tonight, with times subject to change.
