Underoath Release ‘Breathing In A New Mentality’ Live Video From Warped Tour

Share

Underoath have released a new live performance video for Breathing In A New Mentality, captured during their main stage set at Vans Warped Tour in Long Beach.

The track, originally released on the band’s 2004 album They’re Only Chasing Safety, was used to open Underoath’s Warped Tour appearance earlier this year.

For a band whose history is closely tied to the festival’s mid-2000s era, guitarist Tim McTague says the decision was deliberate (Per Metal Underground).

“Playing ‘Warped Tour is nostalgic for all of us to say the least, but Underoath has never phoned anything in and when we thought about how to introduce ourselves to whatever the new Warped Tour crowd is, we thought ‘Breathing In A New Mentality’ was a pretty good statement to kick the night off. It worked.”

The new footage lands while Underoath are in the middle of another major anniversary cycle.

The band are currently marking 20 years of Define The Great Line, the 2006 album that helped push their sound further into heavier, more atmospheric territory and remains one of the defining records in their catalogue.

20th anniversary range

Underoath’s official store is currently carrying a dedicated 20th anniversary range for the album, including new vinyl editions and a tour VIP package built around the anniversary run.

That tour is set to follow a run of US festival appearances later this year, with August Burns Red, Atreyu, As Cities Burn and Emery listed among the supporting acts across selected dates.

For Australian fans, there are no local dates attached to the current Define The Great Line anniversary run at this stage (but keep those fingers crossed).

The Long Beach performance instead offers a fresh look at a song from a different era of Underoath’s catalogue, reconnecting the band with a festival that helped define a significant part of their early international rise.

Breathing In A New Mentality remains one of the opening statements from They’re Only Chasing Safety, and more than two decades later, Underoath are still finding ways to reframe it for a new crowd.
