Violet Grohl Releases Debut Solo Tracks ‘THUM’ And ‘Applefish’

Share

Violet Grohl has officially stepped into her own spotlight, releasing her first solo tracks and marking the beginning of a new chapter for the 19 year old musician.

Long recognised as a powerful presence alongside her father, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Violet is now carving out a space that sits comfortably within alt-rock while hinting at her own artistic identity.

Her debut single ‘THUM’ arrived alongside its B-side ‘Applefish’, she shared the news across social media with a message that captured just how much this moment means to her. “I’m beyond excited to finally share a little bit of what i’ve been working on over the last year,” she wrote. “I made these tracks with the most badass group of musicians, so happy they’re finally yours:).”

Vinyl release

Fans can grab the songs as a 7-inch vinyl through Bandcamp for eight dollars, with ‘THUM’ available for streaming and the moodier ‘Applefish’ offered digitally or on vinyl.

It’s the first major confirmation of long circulating rumours that Violet has been crafting a debut album, reportedly developed throughout the past year. The Hollywood Reporter notes she spent significant time recording in a studio gifted to her by her father, working with producer Justin Raisen, known for collaborating with Charli XCX, Drake, John Legend and Kim Gordon.

Violet’s musical journey has been unfolding steadily since 2018, when she performed a stirring cover of Adele’s ‘When We Were Young’ at age twelve. Since then, she has stepped into increasingly prominent roles: joining her dad and surviving members of Nirvana for a rendition of ‘Heart-Shaped Box’, singing backing vocals for artists like St. Vincent and Beck, and contributing to Foo Fighters records Medicine at Midnight and But Here We Are.

She also honoured drummer Taylor Hawkins at tribute concerts in 2022, and released a sharp, emotionally charged cover of X’s ‘Nausea’ with Dave that same year, most recently, she delivered lead vocals on Nirvana’s ‘All Apologies’ at the 2025 FireAid LA Benefit Concert, performing alongside her father, Krist Novoselic, Pat Smear and Kim Gordon.
