Families Of Wayne Static And Tera Wray Object To Unauthorised Documentary

The families of late Static-X frontman Wayne Static and his wife Tera Wray have made their stance unmistakably clear, they don’t want filmmaker Matt Zane pushing ahead with an unauthorised documentary centred on the couple’s personal lives.

Zane recently announced plans to crowdfund the project in January 2026, describing it as a deep dive into their ‘intense and often turbulent relationship’, the families say they never signed off on it, and they’re not about to start now.

Wayne’s sister, Aimee Wells Pittman, shared a lengthy statement on behalf of both families, explaining their “strenuous objection” to any attempts to portray Wayne Wells (Wayne Static) or Tera Lents (Tera Wray) without consent.

The message goes beyond simple disapproval, warning that any exploitation of their likenesses, from private footage to behind the scenes material, will result in “the appropriate legal response”.

According to the families, the darker chapters of Wayne and Tera’s struggles have already been documented, citing the ‘Assassins Of Youth’ video from 2013 and Static-X’s 2023 clip for ‘Stay Alive’.

They also pointed to the band’s upcoming authorised film, ‘Evil Disco – The Rise, Fall, And Regeneration Of Static-X’, which they say devotes the necessary context to Wayne’s life, musical legacy, and tragic final years.

“If Mr. Zane is in possession of any additional rare or unseen footage that could contribute to the celebration of Wayne’s life and legacy, we kindly ask him to share the footage with our families,” the statement reads.

They also reject any use of AI to replicate Wayne’s voice, making it clear the estate must approve any unreleased music or archival material.

Zane, a longtime collaborator who previously directed Wayne’s solo videos, has claimed he hopes to finish a project the couple once wanted to make with him, adding that he intends to revisit unreleased material, potentially with AI tools.

Both Wayne and Tera’s deaths in 2014 and 2016 shook fans worldwide, their families say their priority now is protecting the couple’s memory while supporting Static-X’s continued celebration of Wayne’s work.
