X-Files Icon Gillian Anderson Praises Ryan Coogler’s Reboot

Share

The once and possibly future Dana Scully has lauded the Sinners director’s upcoming reboot, and said there has been “a few conversations” about her potential return to The X-Files.

Both speculation and expectation are running high in regards to Creed and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler‘s imminent reboot of The X-Files. Coogler’s stock couldn’t be higher following Sinners performing remarkably well at this year’s Oscars, and it seems the public appetite for reboots of iconic 90s properties is still healthy, even if Buffy The Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale didn’t quite make the grade.

Of course, we don’t know much about the new series. Hulu ordered a new X-Files pilot (and yeah, they also ordered a New Sunnydale pilot, so don’t count your chickens) so it’ll be streaming on Disney+ locally. And Danielle Deadwyler has been cast as one of two mismatched FBI agents who investigate things that go bump in the night, whir in the sky, or whatever the folklore du jour might require.

but someone who does know more – a bit more at least – is the great Gillian Anderson, who played skeptical Dr. Dana Scully opposite David Duchovny as true believer Fox Mulder in the original series (and the best forgotten first reboot). As per Deadline, Anderson spoke a little about the potential new series while appearing at Awesome Con, where she revealed that she’s met with Coogler a few times, the subject of her reprising her role has definitely come up, and “the pilot script is really good.”

“I would say, have an open mind and give it a chance because it’s gonna be f***ing cool,” she continued. “It’s something different. It’s different, and it’s special, so give it a break.”

Which could be interpreted any number of ways, really.

Gillian Anderson’s next film is the metatextual horror movie Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma opposite Hannah Einbinder for director Jane Schoenbrun.
