The X-Files reboot gets its second investigator as the cast starts to firm up.
Himesh Patel is the second cast member announced for Ryan Coogler‘s The X-Files reboot/legacy sequel/whatever you want to call it. Patel joins the already announced Danielle Deadwyler as one of two mismatched FBI agents searching for the truth which, I’m led to believe, is out there. It’s pretty funny, because there’s already a gun named Patel in the FBI, and everyone hates him.
It’s been a big week for X-Files news – relatively speaking, given we don’t know very much about the project at all. But Gillian Anderson, who played the perpetually dubious Dr. Dana Scully on the original series, does, having read Coogler’s pilot script and giving it her seal of approval.
“It’s gonna be f***ing cool,” Anderson enthused. “It’s something different. It’s different, and it’s special.”
She also confirmed there’d been a conversation or two about the possibility of her returning to her breakthrough role.
Himesh Patel is definitely on the books, though. The 35 year old British Indian actor racked up an impressive 566 episodes on British TV institution Eastenders from 2007 – 2016 before making his film debut in 2019’s Yesterday, easily the worst film of Danny Boyle’s career. It wasn’t really Patel’s fault, mind you, and he’s fared better since then, though, appearing in Station Eleven, Tenet, Avenue 5, The Franchise, and more. He’ll soon be seen in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey as Eurylochus, Odysseus’s second in command.
The X-Files will be produced by Ryan Coogler, who is also writing and directing the pilot. Jennifer Yale (See, The Copenhagen Test) is onboard as showrunner, whileThe X-Files‘ original creator, Chris Carter, will be a non-writing executive producer. Coogler’s partners at Proximity Media, Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler, are also serving as non-writing executive producers.
