Watching Yours Truly spearhead a revival of Aussie pop punk has been a pleasure. From their Afterglow EP of 2019 to their new single ‘Composure’ today, the esteemed Sydney outfit are consistently impressing. Premiering on triple j officially last night, ‘Composure’ is angled at acknowledging the familiar pain and complexity of ending a relationship.
“It’s natural to be upset, angry and a million different other emotions at once”, frontwoman Mikaila Delgado explains. “I wrote it at a time when I really needed to reclaim my self worth after losing so much of it, I was over being miserable waiting for acceptance.”
The accompanying video also has a place in conveying the band’s intentions with the song, with Delgado adding that the act collectively “wanted the video to show off the new era of Yours Truly and to take things to the next level.” The stitch work and embroidery in the clip adds to a notion of it feeling “personal and ‘hand made'”, with the group calling on friend Georgia Moloney, who did the single artwork, to re-create the handiwork craft vibe on camera.
Yours Truly have been busy over the past year playing shows and kicking ass, including a stint at the Good Things Festival hanging with us. They were set to head out on the Sad Summer Fest tour over in the States supporting All Time Low, who released their eighth studio album Wake Up, Sunshine just last week. Joining them on the bill would have been The Story So Far, Movements and The Maine. The festival is of course under question given the current climate, but we have no doubt that Yours Truly will be keeping occupied in the meantime after tweeting in March that they’re working on their debut full-length record.
