There’s been a helluva lot of racket coming from the Aunty Donna camp of late. Between chasing down the titans of not just streaming services, but pizza deliveries and just about everything in between, Aunty Donna have emerged the undisputed champs of popular culture during a time when it drove the public discourse in a way that it’s never done before and the entire population was a captive audience. It’s safe to say…HAVEN’T THEY DONE WELL?!
Not content with merely scorching and salting the earth under all those who consider themselves peers with an international smash-hit Netflix series Aunty Donna’s Big Ol’ House Of Fun, the boys – Broden, Mark and Zach – have revealed their plans for further domination IRL, announcing their first live tour in three years, the ‘Magical Dead Cat’ Australian tour, kicking off in October.
The Netflix series built upon a sturdy foundation of several years as one of Australia’s most baffling and beloved absurdist comedy groups, putting Aunty Donna in the same room as Hollywood hotshots The Office’s Ed Helms and Between Two Ferns’ Scott Aukerman, who held down executive production duties. The series would go on to be declared as “brilliant” by the breathtaking Neil Patrick Harris, and us mere mortals dare not argue.
Speaking to their first run of live dates in three years, the Aunty Donna boys narrate: “When the Magical Dead Cat demanded we participate in this incredible tour of Australia, a tour showcasing brand new hilarious comedy and some fan favourite bits from our recent world-shaking Netflix series, we were initially hesitant. It seemed we would provide the bulk of the entertainment whilst the Magical Dead Cat would merely bring some coughed up fur balls!
We raised our concerns with the Magical Dead Cat and it offered to sweeten the deal by ending each show with a special surprise web slinging guest whose name rhymes with Glider Man. Desperate to meet this special surprise guest, we immediately said yes.”
That’s enough said, really.
