The Blunt Mag Tattoo Podcast returns for 2022 and in a big way: With both a timely, yet somehow timeless conversation with Rhys Gordon. Those in the know are all too familiar with Gordon’s reputation, and those not in the know have more the likely benefited from it with Gordon emerging as somewhat of a moral compass throughout the trials and tribulations the Australian tattoo community faced over the past two years.
Stylicially, Gordon likes his pieces big and brilliant, developing a particular knack for Custom, traditional, Japanese pieces. The type that requires considerable commitment and focus – key skills in the game that Rhys is more than willing to impart on his fellow artists as well as the next generation.
With studios closing – and careers on the brink – during the pandemic, Rhys and co kept the flame burning with a dedicated podcast series, the spiritual successor to the Blunt Mag Tattoo Podcast, allowing artists to interact on the subject in a way that hadn’t been done before.
Located deep in Sydney’s Surry Hills, Little Tokyo is much more than a tattoo studio. Gordon and his team have fostered an environment that’s become more of a heartbeat for the scene in the city, with a small crowd of bespoke artists.
If you were on the hunt for a custom traditional Japanese tattoo, look no further – and even if you weren’t, well, maybe prepare for that to change a little. Here are six of Rhys’ hottest pieces.
