Lorde Crashes Sydney Club Night Dedicated to… Herself

Share

Lorde just pulled the kind of move most pop stars wouldn’t dare touch with a ten-foot ring light.

She showed up to a club night themed around herself, danced in the middle of the crowd, and sang along to her own songs like she’d just snuck in through the fire exit.

It all went down at Mary’s Underground in Sydney on Sunday night, where fans gathered for a Lorde-themed event billed as a celebration of “our true Lorde and saviour.” What started as a cute tribute turned full fever dream when the actual Lorde — yes, Lorde — walked through the doors and straight into the chaos.

According to stunned fans on the ground, she shook hands, hugged people, sang along to her latest single “What Was That”, and even jumped behind the decks for a bit. No label stunt. No VIP roping off. Just Lorde, lip-syncing her Charli XCX remix “Girl, So Confusing” on a sticky dance floor in Sydney. And apparently, she almost refused to leave when her team tried to pull her out.

EMI confirmed the whole thing was her idea. An “impromptu decision” with a quick security sweep beforehand. No social teaser, no glam squad, just pure chaos and connection — the good kind.

The appearance comes just weeks after she did the same thing on the other side of the world — debuting “What Was That” in New York’s Washington Square Park with a last-minute text blast: “Meet me in the park Tonight 7pm -xx.”

Lorde’s new album Virgin drops June 27, and if this is how she’s rolling it out — unfiltered, unexpected, and right in the middle of the crowd — we’re fully in.

Some days she’s a woman, some days she’s a man, and some days she’s just showing up to her own dance party to watch the world scream every lyric back at her. Lorde, indeed.
