Wolf Alice Debut New Song ‘The Sofa’ at Tiny Paris Show

Share

Wolf Alice just gave fans another glimpse into their next era—and it’s definitely a slow burn.

At a low-key show in Paris last night (June 3), the band quietly dropped a new track called “The Sofa,” marking the second time they’ve debuted unreleased material from their upcoming album, The Clearing. No huge announcement. No lead-up. Just Ellie Rowsell and co. sliding into the song like they’d been playing it forever.

Soft and aching, “The Sofa” finds the band leaning into a more atmospheric, stripped-back mood than some of the bolder cuts they’ve previewed lately—like the shimmering “Bloom Baby Bloom” or the brooding “Thorns,” which made its debut during a Kilkenny warm-up set. According to Setlist.fm, the song was slotted mid-set, and if the fan-shot footage is anything to go by, it landed with quiet devastation.

The Clearing, due out August 29, will be Wolf Alice’s first album since 2021’s Mercury Prize-winning Blue Weekend, and their first since signing to a major. A lot’s changed. New label, new energy—but the band’s emotional core remains untouched.

They’re currently on a run of intimate European dates ahead of Primavera Sound later this week, subbing in for Clairo. But these aren’t just warm-up shows—they’re soft launches of a new chapter. A careful, almost private unveiling. And so far, it’s working.

“The Sofa” feels like the kind of song that could anchor the middle of the album—the emotional hinge around which everything else turns. Sparse, but potent.

The band’s live setup continues tonight in Utrecht and heads to Berlin later this month. Meanwhile, fans waiting on The Clearing have more to look forward to, with a full tour kicking off in September. While no Australian dates have been announced yet we will keep you in the loop if they are.

In the meantime though, enjoy “The Sofa”. The Clearing won’t just be a new beginning, it might be their most intimate record yet.
