Melbourne’s PICA was wall-to-wall with diehards on Tuesday night, as Spacey Jane rolled into town for a sold-out show that felt both intimate and explosive – a full-spectrum snapshot of a band levelling up in real time.
Spacey Jane drenched PICA in nostalgia and new energy at their sold-out Melbourne show on Tuesday evening with a show propelled into the stratosphere by their newest album.
The Moving Stills opened the night with sun-soaked, jangly riffs and good-times energy, easing the crowd in with their signature coastal charm. Phoebe Go followed with a set of crystalline vocals and quietly devastating songwriting, holding the packed room in gentle, reverent silence. Then it was time.
Spacey Jane strutted out on stage to a wave of cheers, launching straight into the evolved vocals of ‘Through My Teeth‘ – a fresh cut from their just-released album If That Makes Sense and an immediate signal that this wasn’t going to be a hits-only nostalgia trip.
The band powered through an emotionally charged 90-minute set spanning all three Spacey Jane records. Tracks like Skin, Feeding the Family, and Good for You lit up the old warehouse with singalongs that could’ve cracked the tin roof. Booster Seat still hits like a generational anthem. Ily the Most and Lunchtime had the crowd swaying and shouting back every word with cathartic joy.
The “old shed,” as vocalist and guitarist Caleb Harper affectionately called it, felt more like a chapel of shared memories by the time the encore rolled in.
Spacey Jane wrapped with So Much Taller and Lots of Nothing, a double-hit that sent everyone into the cool winter night beaming.
