The upcoming slasher reboot/sequel stacks on the familiar faces.
Everything old is new again as the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer goes out of its way to remind us of the 1997 I Know What You Did Last Summer. Much like the 2018 Halloween and the 2022 Scream, this one is also just straight-up reusing the title of its forebear, which is now starting to feel a bit lazy. But that’s not all they’re recycling from the early franchise…
I Know What You Did Last Summer Trailer
What’s the plot?
As per the official synopsis:
When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.
Those two survivors are, of course, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr. as Ray Bronson – and yes, it’s nice to see ’em both.
This one is directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, whose Do Revenge was pretty great. But she also cowrote Thor: Love and Thunder, and that was dreadful. Here she’s on scripting duties with Sam Lansky, who apparently ghostwrote Britney Spears’ autobiography, The Woman in Me. Make of that what you will.
Who’s in it?
- Madelyn Cline as Danica Richards
- Chase Sui Wonders as Ava Brucks
- Jonah Hauer-King as Milo Griffin
- Tyriq Withers as Teddy Spencer
- Sarah Pidgeon as Stevie Ward
- Jennifer Love Hewitt as Julie James

When’s it out?

What’s the vibe?
Eh… I mean, it looks fine. I know it’s always easier to get up a known franchise film than an original property, but was anyone champing at the bit for a new Last Summer flick? Did anyone watch the Amazon series? I did, and I regret it to this day. Ah, well – maybe we’ll be pleasantly surprised.
