Halo Studios could reveal the future of the game at the Halo World Championship in October amid remake and PlayStation rumours.
The long-swirling rumors about the future of Halo are finally getting a timeline for some answers, as Halo Studios have teased that they could reveal what’s next in October at the 2025 Halo World Championship.
Speculation has reached fever pitch over the past month, especially after Xbox boss Phil Spencer teased the return of a classic franchise during the recent Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest. Alongside updates on Fable, Gears of War, and Forza, Spencer hinted at something big for (possibly) Halo, saying: “and the return of a classic that’s been with us since the beginning.”
The cryptic line fuelled theories of a remake and suggestions the franchise could jump to PlayStation 5 or even Nintendo’s next console, following Gears of War’s confirmed move to multiple platforms later this year.
On June 30, Halo Studios Esports Lead Tahir “Tashi” Hasandjekic addressed the swirling rumours directly in a blog post detailing the upcoming Halo World Championship, set for October in Seattle. The post not only encouraged fans to attend, but also offered a rare acknowledgment of the rampant speculation.
“Over the past few weeks, there’s been a fair amount of speculation about when and where more details might emerge about any of the multiple projects Halo Studios is actively working on,” wrote Tashi. “We don’t usually comment on such matters, but this time we want to enter the chat and share a little more perspective for Halo fans who might be on the fence about whether to attend this year’s event.”
Tashi reminded readers that last year’s Halo WC saw the debut of “A New Dawn,” a short video that announced 343 Industries’ transition into Halo Studios and revealed the move to Unreal Engine. He made it clear that the studio plans to pick up where “A New Dawn” left off at this year’s championship.
“For us, “A New Dawn” was just the beginning – at this year’s HaloWC, we look forward to continuing the conversation,” the post continues.’
“Speculation is always fun, but if you want the official scoop on what Halo Studios has been working on, you won’t want to miss this year’s Halo World Championship. We really hope you’ll join us in Seattle this October!”
With the studio promising more details in just a few months, fans eager for confirmation on a potential Combat Evolved remake or the series’ rumored leap to PlayStation now have a date to circle on their calendars.
But in the meantime, Tashi’s attempt to temper the excitement may have done the opposite, stoking curiosity and fuelling even more speculation online. October’s Halo World Championship now looks set to be a must-watch event for anyone invested in the future of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises.
