Australia is not here for Kanye’s Nazi phase. And good on us I say.
Kanye West – legally known as Ye – has officially been banned from entering Australia after releasing a track titled ‘Heil Hitler’. The country’s Home Affairs Minister, Tony Burke, confirmed the rapper’s visa had been revoked following the release of the song in May, which dropped on the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s defeat. Timing, apparently, wasn’t the only issue.
“Ye no longer has a valid visa in Australia,” Burke told ABC’s Afternoon Briefing. “He’s made a lot of offensive comments, and once he released that track, my officials reassessed everything.”
While Burke didn’t go into deep detail about the visa process, he made it clear: “What’s not sustainable is importing hatred.”
Ye’s wife, Bianca Censori, hails from Melbourne, and he’s reportedly spent extended time in the country over the last year. But now that’s ostensibly over. Officials confirmed that even the most basic tourist visa had been pulled due to “character” concerns under Australia’s Migration Act — the same legislation used to boot Novak Djokovic during the COVID vaccine saga.
This isn’t Ye’s first descent into controversy, but it’s arguably one of the ugliest. The petition to have him pulled from Slovakia’s Rubicon festival next month is gaining traction, with organisers accused of platforming “symbols and ideology connected with the darkest period of modern history.” A Slovak Jewish group called his appearance “a spit in the face of Holocaust victims.”
Earlier this year, Ye was sued by a former Yeezy staffer for alleged antisemitic behaviour, including text messages that read “Hail Hitler.” Around the same time, his online merch store listed a plain white tee printed with a large swastika.
Once upon a time, Kanye was a boundary-pushing genius with a messy Twitter account. Now he’s fully crossed over into hate-speech cosplay and fascist baiting.
Australia isn’t having it — and frankly, who could blame us? In 2025, there’s no defending this kind of stunt. Keep the ego. Leave the fascist fan-fiction.
