Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath Raise $190 Million For Charity At Final Show

Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s farewell show raised $190 million for Parkinson’s, children’s health and hospice care.

Black Sabbath’s final performance wasn’t just a landmark moment in heavy music history, it also became one of the most successful charity events the genre has ever seen. The band’s Back to the Beginning concert, held at Villa Park in Birmingham, brought in a staggering $190 million for three major charities: Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice.

Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, who acted as musical director for the all-star event, confirmed the figure on Instagram. “We set out to not just create the greatest day in the history of heavy metal,” he wrote. “We raised a ton of money for a great cause and so many great musicians and bands and fans all over the world paid tribute to the all time greats.”

“THANKYOU [Ozzy] for trusting me to be the Musical Director of the “Back To The Beginning” show. It was over a year of hard work but heavy metal was the music that made me love music and it was a labor of love,” the post continued.

The show, which took place in Black Sabbath’s hometown, attracted 40,000 in-person attendees and was livestreamed by over 5 million viewers worldwide, according to The Guardian. With every artist performing free of charge, all proceeds went directly to the nominated charities.

BBC confirmed that the funds will be split between the three organisations, each of which had been selected due to personal ties with the Osbourne family. Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne have long supported Birmingham Children’s Hospital, while Cure Parkinson’s became a priority following Ozzy’s diagnosis in 2019.

Sheeba Ali, fundraising manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, told BBC: “It was a brilliant surprise and we’re over the moon.”

The historic farewell also featured performances from Metallica, Tool, Guns N’ Roses, Judas Priest, and more, with Jason Momoa hosting. Beyond the numbers, the event served as a powerful send-off for the original Black Sabbath lineup, capping off a legacy that shaped metal as we know it.
