Deftones have just announced their first album in five years is dropping later this year.
Deftones have finally announced their 10th album private music and when we can expect to hear it. This will be the bands first album in over five years since their 2020 album Ohms.
The band have been cryptically dropping hints about the new record for some time now (including projections at recent shows and mysterious posts to social media), and now it’s officially confirmed the album will be dropping on August 22nd this year.
To help tide us over, the alt-metal icons also dropped the first single, ‘my mind is a mountain’. The band have been teasing the track on their socials throughout the week, and now, we get to listen to it in all its glory.
In classic Deftones fashion, singer Chino Moreno‘s voice sits further back in the mix, screaming against the loud guitars, hammering a monolithic groove that’ll give you the stankiest of faces. This will also be the first album with new bass player Fred Sablan after Sergio Vega left in 2021.
You can check out the newest track ‘my mind is a mountain’ here (and below).
Deftones confirmed that Nick Raskulinecz, who worked on the band’s 2010 album Diamond Eyes and its 2012 follow-up, Koi No Yokan, has returned to help produce the new record.
It’s been a long wait to hear new Deftones music, and if the first single proves anything, it’s that private music is sure to deliver yet another banger record from the group.
