Tom Morello Releases Video for ‘Everyone Gets Everything They Want’

Tom Morello has released a video for ‘Everyone Gets Everything They Want’, the title track from his latest solo album, just over a month after the record arrived.

The clip, directed by Isabella Margolis, follows September’s release of Everyone Gets Everything They Want through Mom + Pop Music, billed as the Rage Against the Machine guitarist’s first solo rock album.

There’s plenty of Morello‘s familiar guitar work here, but the record doesn’t stick to one sound. System of a Down’s Serj Tankian joins him and his son Roman, who is 15 on ‘Adjourn It’, Kneecap turn up on ‘Unconquered’, and Beartooth feature on ‘Everything Burns’. Roman also shares writing credits on five songs.

The politics run through the music, rather than sitting off to one side. ‘Adjourn It’ confronts racism and prejudice against immigrants, while its video borrows footage from the 1954 film Salt of the Earth. Another track, ‘Date Night’, tells the story of three young Dutch women who fought the Nazis during the Second World War.

That song was written with Roman, who contributed the guitar riff. It’s one of the more specific stories on a record that also takes aim at fascism and political unrest.

The title track is the second song on the album, following the short opener ‘Beth From Electronics’. Its new video follows the earlier clips for ‘Adjourn It’ and Kneecap collaboration ‘Unconquered’.

Morello also held his Power to the People festival earlier this month, bringing another part of his political campaigning onto the concert stage.
