Knocked Loose tore through Sound And Fury with a headline set that levelled the festival.
It was loud, sweaty and unapologetic, really, just how it should be.
Halfway through the set, George Clarke from Deafheaven showed up and took over vocals for God Knows. That track originally featured Matt King from Portrayal of Guilt but Clarke made it his own. Deafheaven weren’t even on the lineup so when he stepped out it felt like a king hit.
Later, Kat Moss from Scowl jumped in for Suffocate, the track Knocked Loose recorded with Poppy. Scowl were already playing the festival so her appearance wasn’t as shocking but it was still ostensibly massive. The energy shifted and the crowd responded like they knew they were getting something special. Clarke came in around the 27 minute mark. Moss hit a little after the half hour. The set was already aggressive but those two seem to have pushed it into another gear.
Knocked Loose has been playing the long game. In March they talked about the Poppy collab on their album You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To. They knew it would throw people but leaned into it. Instead of playing it safe, they made the song heavier and weirder. There is a reggaeton mosh part. There is a dance beat hidden under an off-time hi-hat. It was literally chaotic by design.
That same chaos showed up at Sound And Fury. I mean, no one was standing still. Everyone on that stage looked like they knew what they were part of. And based on the footage shot above, it was certainly something very special.
Knocked Loose turned Sound And Fury into their house. If this is what their first time at the top looks like, the next time around will be even louder.
