Nine Inch Nails has released the lead single, ‘As Alive As You Need Me To Be’, from their soundtrack for the upcoming film ‘TRON: Ares’.
Nine Inch Nails has just dropped their first track off the soundtrack for the upcoming TRON: Ares film, and it’s one for everyone who loves scary, horny cyberpunk tunes (there are dozens of us!)
The single, ‘As Alive As You Need Me To Be’, is the first single from the band in five years. It’s worth noting that this isn’t being labelled a Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross soundtrack, but a full Nine Inch Nails score.
In the absence of new Nine Inch Nails albums, both Reznor and Ross have spent the last few years racking up several film credits, earning them two Academy Awards for Best Original Score.
Previously, the now disbanded Daft Punk worked on the soundtrack for TRON: Legacy – an absolute killer record of electronic music you could put up there with the rest of their discography. With such a high bar set, it makes sense why Tom MacDougall, the President of Walt Disney Music, asked the band to take up soundtrack duties for a sequel.
“I’ll give a few spoilers: there’s not one second of orchestra in our score,” Reznor told Empire. “It sounds precise and unpleasant at times. It’s not an atonal, punishing score, but we spent a lot of time thinking about the undertones of what’s happening in the story. The concept of artificial life infused with feelings and emotions and a sense of questioning their purpose and their replaceability, their lack of soul, in some ways. We kind of riffed on that.” I just let out a dreamy sigh. We’re so back.
TRON: Ares is set to release on October 10 later this year, and will star Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges, Evan Peters, Greta Lee and more.
