Former child star legless in shocking new promo.
Yes, it’s an obvious joke, but once I saw Elle Fanning being carted around like C-3PO in The Empire Strikes Back, how could I resist? But the main takeaway here is that the full Predator: Badlands trailer looks rad as hell.
Predator: Badlands Trailer
What’s the plot?
As is so often the case, plot details are being kept under tight wraps. But the general gist is that Dek, a young and apparently weedy (by their standards) Predator, is off on a hunt, desperate to prove he’s got the right stuff. He encounters Thia – well, half of her – a human-manufactured android, and they team up. So: sci-fi survival horror sci-fi buddy movie? I’m here for it.
But what is interesting is that Thia is a Weyland-Yutani model, which shores up the Predator franchise’s long-standing but still rather ill-defined connections (depending on what you consider canon, I guess) to the Alien series. You gotta wonder if the imminent Alien: Earth, due on Disney+ soon, will be returning the favour.
It does seem that early reports that Predator: Badlands is set on the Predator home world were incorrect, though. Not a gripe, just an observation.
Who’s in it?
- Elle Fanning as Thia, a young android created by Weyland-Yutani.
- Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Dek, a young Predator outcast for being a runt.
And that’s it! You know, there’s a fair chance there are no human characters in this thing.
When’s it out?
Predator: Badlands stealths into Australian cinemas on November 6 2025.
What’s the vibe?
I’ve been consistently in the bag for all things Predator-related since 1987, so I’m an easy sell on this one. And while it’s steeped in the lore of two different, connected franchises, all reports indicate this is a standalone film you don’t need to do homework on to enjoy as is. Which, frankly, is something of a relief these days.
