My Chemical Romance performed their unreleased track ‘War Beneath The Rain’ last night at their Dodger Stadium concert, paying tribute to their late producer and engineer Doug McKean.
My Chemical Romance continues to pull out surprises in their setlist this tour.
While performing at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium, frontman Gerard Way introduced ‘War Beneath the Rain’, an unreleased track for “a record that never came out.” He added, “This was one of the songs we really loved from it. It was just us in the studio with our friend [the late studio engineer] Doug McKean – he was there recording it. His family’s here tonight. I want this to go out to them.”
McKean was an industry-renowned engineer and producer, working with several notable artists, including Paramore, Green Day, Simple Plan, and more. He was also My Chemical Romance’s long-term engineer and producer, having worked with the band since the release of “Welcome To The Black Parade.” He would, unfortunately, pass away at the age of 54 in 2022.
You can watch footage of the performance below.
It’s unclear where the song sits in the band’s timeline, but it’s most likely that ‘War Beneath The Rain’ was intended to land on My Chemical Romance’s fifth studio album, which had the working title The Paper Kingdom.
The album was in the process of being recorded when MCR suddenly announced their breakup in March 2013, and fans have been speculating about what could have been since. Well, last night gave us a definitive look.
The emo giants have just kicked off their ‘Long Live The Black Parade‘ tour, celebrating 20 years of their iconic 2006 album The Black Parade. The band have been playing the entire album in full, as well as some other classics from their extensive discography.
While no official Aussie tour has been announced, some speculate we could expect some news next year. A man can dream.
