Gamescom 2025 just had its opening night, announcing a variety of exciting new games and gaming-related series.
Gamescom 2025’s Opening Night Live showcase went off without a hitch, showcasing some truly exciting games on the horizon. Which is all the more impressive given we’ve had Xbox and Nintendo holding their own showcases recently.
There were a few games we were expecting to see pop up at the showcase, but nonetheless, they were still impressive. However, there were also several surprises revealed throughout the night to keep people on their toes.
Here are our picks for the five best reveals at Gamescom’s 2025 opening showcase.
The 5 best reveals at Gamescom 2025
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
The Call of Duty: Black Ops series is back with another instalment this year, and it’s looking like they’re trying new things with this one.
The trailers for this one have been revolving around the game’s story-based campaign, which is now seven instalments deep. This time, however, you’ll be able to play through the campaign solo or with up to four players.
As usual, Black Ops 7 will also feature a suite of competitive multiplayer modes and more zombies, which developer Treyarch’s associate creative director Miles Leslie promises to be “more expansive” than ever. They also promised that players won’t need to do any homework to catch up on the series.
The game has been confirmed to release later this year on November 14 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox Series S|X, and, surprisingly, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which is more interesting, as no Switch 2 version has been announced as of yet.
Valor Mortis
Valor Mortis is an upcoming first-person action game from the studio behind the 2020 action platform game Ghostrunner.
The studio has decided to pivot from its cyberpunk environment this time around, and has chosen to set the game in Napoleon-era wartime with a Bloodborne twist.
Hopefully, it can scratch that same itch.
Sekiro: No Defeat
Fans of developer FromSoft are in for a treat. First, A24 announced an upcoming Elden Ring movie from the director of Ex Machina and Civil War, Alex Garland. Now, we’re also getting a Sekiro anime.
Crunchyroll itself is producing the anime and appears to be a 1:1 adaptation of the 2019 action game.
Unlike most Souls games, Sekiro was arguably the most straightforward story, but in my humble opinion, it was the studio’s best. Unfortunately, the game didn’t receive any post-launch downloadable content, and no sequel has been announced. Hopefully, with the anime, this can point towards an eventual sequel on the horizon.
World of Warcraft: Midnight
World of Warcraft is good again!
After a few years in a lull, last year’s The War Within finally brought the game back to glory with an intriguing story, a villain worth caring about, and of course, much-needed gameplay revamps to help bring in new players and convince long-time subscribers to keep playing.
Now, Blizzard is looking for a homerun with its upcoming expansion Midnight. Even if you’re not a Warcraft fan, a Blizzard CG trailer is always worth watching. And watch you should, because the team have it out of the park here.
Cult of the Lamb: Woolhaven
Australia’s own Massive Monster and Devolver Digital game, Cult of the Lamb, is getting a massive expansion early next year.
This game will see your beloved satanic cult leader journey into the mountains to learn more about your character’s past, and the lost god they used to worship. You’ll get to rebuild the spiritual home of Woolhaven while trying to endure the harsh colds of winter on the mountain. So, if you’ve been looking to replay the game with a bit more of a challenge, this might be it.
Bonus: Bubsy 4D
That’s right, the greatly memed and panned Bubsy is getting a new game. The trailer was shown during the Gamescom opening night, and overall, the reception to the trailers has been “Hm. This is surprisingly ok”.
I have to admit, I’m not keen on how much Bubsy’s feet are being shown in promotional material. The world does not need to see Bubsy’s grippers.
