Judas Priest have shared their official cover of Black Sabbath’s ‘War Pigs’ featuring vocals from Ozzy Osbourne himself. The track has been released as a charity single to raise money for Parkinson’s disease charities.
Judas Priest have released an official version of their cover of Black Sabbath’s ‘War Pigs’. The cover, which features the late Ozzy Osbourne, has been released as a charity single to raise money for Parkinson’s disease charities.
Osbourne would be diagnosed with the degenerative neurological condition in 2019, and his struggles with it would become the subject matter for his upcoming biography, Last Rites. The singer would pass away in July, weeks after Black Sabbath’s final show in Birmingham.
Judas Priest, also from Birmingham, decided to release a charity version of Black Sabbath’s renowned ‘War Pigs’ as the group were unable to join Osbourne and various other metal bands for the Back To The Beginning concert due to prior commitments.
In 2008, Judas Priest guitarist Glenn Tipton was also diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and would share the diagnosis with the public ten years later. Tipton would also play guitasssr for the charity single.
In an interview with Full Metal Jackie, singer Rob Halford teased that Sharon Osbourne was so impressed with how the band covered the song that she asked if there was a way to get Ozzy included on the track.
“She approached me with this idea, she said, ‘I love your version of ‘War Pigs.’ Is there a way we can get Ozzy?’ I was [like], ‘You’re asking me? This is gonna happen,'” shared Halford.
“It’s the first ever time in my entire life that I’ve been able to do a duet with Ozzy and I’m so eternally grateful and blessed that I was able to do that,” the singer added, calling the final version of their collaboration “just colossal.”
“When you hear Priest’s ‘War Pigs’ with Ozzy singing on that track, it’s just going to a really special place,” Halford told Full Metal Jackie.
