The enigmatic masked band PRESIDENT have announced a one-off show in Melbourne while the band are in town supporting Architects. This will be their only headline performance during their Australian tour.
Alt-metal newcomers President have announced an exclusive one-off headline show in Melbourne while supporting Architects on their Australian tour.
The mysterious group will be performing at Stay Gold Friday, 12 December, and are promising to put on a set that’ll show off the group’s genre-defying sound and raw intensity.
President broke out onto the scene earlier this year with their debut single ‘In The Name of the Father’, followed by ‘Fearless’ and ‘Rage.’ Alongside the songs, they made their live debut at Download Festival, quickly drawing attention and comparisons to fellow masked act Sleep Token. Fan speculation about who was behind the masks ran wild, with some guessing it might be Chino Moreno of Deftones or Charlie Simpson of Busted and Fightstar.
In a conversation with Metal Hammer, President confirmed the stage names of the band. The group’s frontman goes by President, joined by guitarist Heist, bassist Protest, and drummer Vice. While those names are now public, the actual identities of the members remain off-limits. “We’re never going to discuss or acknowledge our identities,” the vocalist said.
The group released their debut EP King of Terrors last week, drawing comparisons to top metal acts like Sleep Token. A vital comparison, which even President are aware of, is the group’s use of religious imagery in their lyrics. In the same Metal Hammer interview, President would clarifythat the group came to be after the singer had grown out of their religious upbringing.
“When you’re institutionalised into something and you eventually get out of it, you end up wondering, ‘How much of this is what I think, and how much is what I was told to think?’” The masked singer would say. “President is the perfect way for me to explore these feelings and not have it feel like ‘me’ who has the spotlight on them.”
Grief would also play a key part in the album, as the singer would admit a death in the family would stir a crisis in faith. “My uncle passed away a few years ago, and that was the first time I’d had someone die who was close to me when I wasn’t part of this religious thinking. It hit me really hard. So King of Terrors sums up the journey I’ve been on,” he explained.
Tickets to President’s first and only headline show on December 12th go on sale Friday, October 3 at 1pm. Presale begins Thursday, October 2 at 12pm local time. More information about the tour and tickets is available here.
