Yellowjackets To End With Season Four

Share

Pour one out for the teen cannibal drama, which now has one season to wrap up its increasingly murky plot.

Cannibalism is officially over. The fad for flesh saw a brief resurgence in popularity with the release of acclaimed films Raw and Bones And All, but now comes the news that anthropophagy fave Yellowjackets has been cancelled. The upcoming fourth season will be its last.

Fans learned that the long pork-themed series would not be long running when creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson made the announcement on Insta, saying:

After three incredible seasons, and great consideration, we’re excited to announce that we will be bringing the story of Yellowjackets to its twisted conclusion in this fourth and final season. We’ve always known there would come a point when the story would tell us it wants to end, and it’s our belief that our job—our responsibility—is to listen. Telling this emotional, wild, and deeply human story has been a profoundly meaningful experience and a true honor for us, and we’re so very grateful to the brilliant cast, crew and writers who have bravely gone on the journey with us to bring it to life. Most of all, we want to thank the fans who have stuck with us through every moment, mystery and meal—the Hive is nothing without you! We can’t wait to share the final chapter with you and hope you find it…delicious.

Well, that’s probably for the best. Like everyone else, I absolutely loved the first season of Yellowjackets, but the last couple of season have suffered from the sense that while the series might have a final destination in mind, the journey has gotten a bit haphazard.

Starring Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Sophie Thatcher, Christina Ricci, and frankly a huge ensemble cast we’d have tp spend all day listing, Yellowjackets follows the titular high school girls’ soccer team in two time periods: back in the ’90s, when the team survive a plane crash only for things to all go a bit Lord Of The Flies, and in the present, when the now grown members have to deal with the consequences of that descent into savagery. Naturally, one of those periods is waaaaaaay more interesting than the other, which has been a bit of a problem these last couple of seasons. Hopefully, this final season manages to stick the landing.

Yellowjackets is streaming on Paramount+ now, with Season Four due in 2026.
