Queer icon Chappell Roan will induct Cyndi Lauper at this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in Los Angeles.

Chappell Roan is making her Rock & Roll Hall of Fame debut next month, taking the stage to induct Cyndi Lauper at the 2025 ceremony in Los Angeles.

While it’ll be some time yet before Roan herself is eligible for induction, the breakout star will join the cast of artists celebrating this year’s honourees at the Peacock Theater on November 8. The Rock Hall’s Class of 2025 includes Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Soundgarden, and the White Stripes. Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon will be recognized for Musical Influence, Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, and Carol Kaye for Musical Excellence, and Lenny Waronker will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

In an Instagram video announcing the news, Chappell Roan shared her excitement and spoke about the influence Lauper has had on her as an artist. “She has inspired me with her fashion and her hair, and of course, her makeup, her music,” Roan said. “I actually auditioned with ‘True Colors’ for America’s Got Talent when I was 13. I didn’t make it, but the song is still incredible. I’m so excited, thank you for having me.”

Lauper has previously praised Chappell Roan’s work, calling her music “such dusky, yearning keyboard pop” in both her Let the Canary Sing documentary and an interview with Playbill. Lauper also commented on Roan’s distinctive look, saying, “And that hair! That kind of reminds me of what I did on the blues record, Memphis Blues. This is just incredible. Everything you wind up doing is an artist collective. I’m going to have to reach out to her.”

Alongside Chappell Roan, the Rock Hall announced that the Killers have joined the event’s lineup. Olivia Rodrigo, Doja Cat, and Elton John are also set to appear, along with Beck, David Letterman, Flea, Iggy Pop, J.I.D, Killer Mike, Maxwell, Questlove, Raye, Sleepy Brown, Teddy Swims, Twenty One Pilots, and Taylor Momsen.

It’s not yet known which of these artists will perform or present, but the 40th annual ceremony looks to be one of the most eclectic bills in the event’s history.
