David Arquette Teases His Return To Scream

Share

Before he tackles Ghostface once more in Scream 7, the late Dewey Riley is tackling some Arby’s steak nuggets.

Dewey Riley is dead, alas, the valiant but gormless former sheriff having been stabbed to death in 2022’s Scream (and not 1996’s Scream, where he first appeared. Clear as mud). But that won’t stop him from showing up in Scream VII, which is due in early 2026. And it won’t stop him from chowing down on some weird steak nuggets things from US fast food chain Arby’s, presumably because that Scream VII cheque hasn’t cleared yet. Check it out:

That’s cute, hey? Tying the whole thing in with the “No Knives Needed” bit (that’s the tagline of the ad campaign if you’re not gonna click through), seeing Arquette in his cop khakis again – that’s a nice bit of synergy.

For his part, Arquette joins a number of actors who are bringing their seemingly deceased characters back to the next instalment of the now-venerable franchise. Also on board are Matthew Lillard (dead in the first flick) and Scott Foley (killed in Scream 3), who will be joining Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and returning series star Neve Campbell as perpetual Final Girl Sidney Prescott.

Campbell sat out Scream V1 due to a pay dispute, but that dispute got settled pretty quickly once new series star Melissa Barrera was fired for speaking out against the Israeli genocide, and co-star Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon, who quit in support. Original Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson is now directing, working form a script by Guy Busick.

As for the plot? Your guess is as good as mine. You’d have to imagine some desperate retooling once it was apparent that Barrera and Ortega’s characters, sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter, weren’t returning, so lord knows what kind of narrative hairpin turns will be required to get the story onto some kind of track.

And as for those steak nuggets? Look, I would, but I wouldn’t brag about it.
