A Fallout 3 Remaster is reportedly in production following the impressive release of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion earlier this year.
A new report has suggested that a remaster of the classic RPG shooter Fallout 3 is in development and will receive the same treatment as the recently released remaster of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
While Bethesda have yet to confirm anything regarding a Fallout 3 remaster, director Todd Howard did confirm in a recent interview with GQ that the developer has “hundreds of people on Fallout right now, with [Fallout:] 76 and some other things we’re doing.”
However, a new report from Video Games Chronicle shares that among those “other things” mentioned is that highly anticipated Fallout 3 remaster we’ve all been eyeing.
Still, all Howard has said about the game in recent times is that, as per his recent GQ interview, “[Fallout 3] has the best opening” of any game he’s ever worked on, and that it “has a very harsh tone”. I respectfully disagree, as nothing can top Skyrim‘s highly popular “Hey, you. You’re finally awake”, but I suppose we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
Adding fuel to the rumour mill, old legal documents that were part of a 2023 leak revealed that Xbox originally planned to release The Elder Scrolls 6 and a Fallout 3 remaster within the same time frame.
While, of course, this timeline fell through and does not seem likely for the next year or so, it might give some hope that these projects are further along than once thought. However, without confirmation, it’s best not to get too excited until you have the game in your hands.
Speaking on the series and its longevity, Howard would go on to say, “Fallout is great, because it can be a gonzo B-movie one moment and then it can be life-or-death trauma. It’s what we spent a lot of time getting right on the TV show.”
Fallout 3 was released in 2008 on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, quickly becoming one of Bethesda’s flagship titles and one of the most iconic games of its console generation.
