AC/DC have kicked off the first show of their massive month-long Aussie tour at Melbourne’s MCG tonight, and fans have been capturing the event all night long – here’s what you missed.
Well, folks, AC/DC have officially kicked off their massive Power Up tour, which will include nine massive shows across the country, taking place throughout November. The tour alone has sold 3.5-4 million tickets, so you can be sure the band will be serving up a thunderous performance.
To say Melbourne is excited for the tour would be an understatement. A massive pop-up store would open this week, taking over The Royal Derby in Fitzroy. The venue would boast exclusive AC/DC merch and would be overrun by fans the day it opened.
Ahead of the performance, 374 bagpipe players took over Melbourne’s Federation Square, smashing a world record while covering AC/DC’s “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll).
Speaking at a press conference at the MCG earlier this week (via Rolling Stone Australia), promoter Christo Van Egmond told reporters the band’s soundcheck had already shaken the ground. “They did the soundcheck yesterday, you could feel the building shake. So it’s good! What a rock’n’roll show should be,” he said.
If you couldn’t make it on the night, or are (im)patiently waiting for Acca Dacca to hit your city, here’s what happened on the big night:
AC/DC Power Up Tour: Off With A Bang
Clips have slowly been making their way online, showing off the immaculate career-spanning setlist from the iconic Aussie rockers.
Kicking off the night, The Casanovas took the stage to set the mood and get the crowd ready. Modern-day Aussie rock legends Amyl & The Sniffers were next, bringing their usual vicious and charismatic charm to the Acca Dacca crowd.
After plenty of suspense, AC/DC broke the tension by busting out the deep cut ‘If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)’ before launching into the crowd favourite ‘Back In Black’, all but sending the crowd into a frenzy.
