Amyl and the Sniffers have taken home Album of the Year at the 39th Annual Aria Awards. The rock group would also take home awards in the categories Best Group, Best Cover Art and Best Rock Album.

Amyl and the Sniffers have taken home Australia’s biggest music award, with their third studio album Cartoon Darkness winning Album of the Year at the 39th Annual Aria Awards.

The Australian rock group would take home four awards across the night also including Best Cover Art, Best Group and Best Rock Album.

Album of the Year was a fairly stacked category depending on who you ask, with Amyl and the Smiths contending up against recognised artists like Missy Higgins and RÜFÜS DU SOL and breakthrough artists Ninjaraichi and Thelma Plum.

Amyl and the Sniffers would earn the most ARIAs across the night. Ninjaraichi would trail just behind the group, winning three awards in the categories Best Solo Artist, Breakthrough Artist and Best Independent Release.

Amyl and the Sniffers would release their third studio album Cartoon Darkness back in October 2024, and have had an explosive year since.

Leaving the Australian shores, the ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ performers would embark on a massive US tour earlier this year, even making their way onto The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to perform their track ‘Tiny Bikini’.

The group would also perform a thunderous set at Coachella and make waves following their intense set at Glastonbury.

Cementing their legacy as one of Australia’s new and best rock acts, Amyl & the Sniffers are also supporting AC/DC during their Australian Power Up tour, which has sold almost 4 million tickets alone.

Just last week, the band were set to perform a free concert at Federation Square, however plans were derailed after fans broke through security barriers, leading the band to cancel their performance last minute.

To make up for cancelling, Amyl and the Sniffers shouted a $35k bar tab across several local bars, which venue Last Chance Rock & Roll Bar would declare “Amyl did more in 15 minutes and a couple of phone calls for small venues and hospitality than any of you in recent memory.”

So, even if you were rooting for Ninjaraichi to take home the big award, there’s no denying that Amyl and the Sniffers are also an impeccable pick.
