American rapper and actor Donald Glover has revealed that he had a stroke while performing at Tyler The Creator‘s annual Camp Flog Gnaw festival in New Orleans, Louisiana, last year.
“I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana, and I did the show anyway. I couldn’t really see well,” he told the crowd. Following his performance, Glover would call off his show in Houston, Texas, and visit a hospital in the city, where he received the diagnosis.
Glover continued, “The first thing I thought was like, ‘Oh, like, here I am still copying Jamie Foxx.’ That’s really like the second thing. The first thing was like, ‘I’m letting everybody down.’”

Glover would go on to cancel the rest of his tour in support of his 2024 album Bando Stone and the New World a month later, citing health issues. At the time of release, Glover described the album as his final under the Childish Gambino name, which made the cancellation all the more final.
The singer would also go on to reveal that doctors also found a hole in his heart, which resulted in him needing to have two surgeries.
“They say everybody has two lives, and the second life starts when you realise you have one. You should be living your life how you want. If we have to do this again, it can only get better,” Glover reflected.
At the time of cancelling, Glover wrote that he had to focus on his “physical health for a few weeks”, but urged fans to hang onto their tickets. It was only a month later that he’d cancel the rest of the tour.
“As my wife says, which I love, ‘If this life is the flavour, as soon as I’m done, give me another scoop'”, Glover told the crowd on Saturday after revealing his ongoing health issues.
