Jillian Lauren, Wife of Weezer Bassist Scott Schriner, Has Filed For Divorce

Bestselling author Jillian Lauren, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has filed for divorce after 20 years of marriage, months after allegedly firing at two L.A. police officers.

Jillian Lauren, author of multiple New York Times bestselling novels, has filed for divorce from Weezer bassist Scott Shriner after 20 years of marriage. The Everything You Ever Wanted writer would cite “irreconcilable differences” for the divorce, according to legal documents obtained by People.

Lauren and Shriner would tie the knot in November 2005 Hawaii, and share two sons Jovanni Starshine, 13, and Tariku Moon, 17. Lauren is reportedly seeking joint legal and physical custody, requested spousal support and asked that the court’s ability to award Shriner spousal support be terminated.

A representative for either Lauren and Shriner have yet to respond for comment.

The news of Lauren and Shriner’s divorce follows after the author was granted the right to enter a two-year mental health diversion program. Following the completion of the program as ordered, a judge is expected to dismiss the two felony charges filed against her.

These charges are in connection with the exchange of gunfire with LAPD officers that left her wounded outside of the couple’s home in Eagle Rock on April 8.

In a statement, the LAPD would say that Lauren racked her gun and fired it during a standoff with police officers. The LAPD would share that the officers were in a neighboring yard conducting a search for hit-and-run suspects who had fled the scene of a nearby traffic collision earlier that day.

While Lauren was not involved with the hit-and-run, police have claimed that Lauren shot at officers who were on the other side of a fence. “The officers gave Shriner repeated verbal commands to drop the handgun, however, she did not comply,” LAPD Commander Alex Chogyoji previously said in a case overview video. “Moments later, Shriner racked the handgun, pointed it at the officers and fired, resulting in an officer involved shooting.”

Lauren would plead not guilty to the charges in May, and was granted a mental health diversion program, letting the 52-year-old writer avoid jail time in September.

“We think this was the right resolution,” Lauren’s lawyer, Hilary Lee Potashner, told Rolling Stone at the time. The attorney and her co-counsel, Georgina Wakefield, said they were “very pleased” that Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Susan J. De Witt found Lauren eligible for the opportunity to have the case dismissed.
