King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard brought the noise to Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Saturday with their rock show sending the crowd absolutely feral. We were there to capture it all.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard brought it back to rock at Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Saturday, one night on from the orchestral set and straight into chaos. No seats and no restraint in sight: just riffs, bodies flying, and the Bowl going feral.
The show was part of the Phantom Island Australian Tour which saw the band roaring across the country over the last fortnight. Of course though, it wasn’t just a bog standard tour – and we wouldn’t expect one from King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, if we’re being completely honest. Each city was up for two distinct nights of music – one for a full-length rock set, and one for a unique orchestral performance, backed by 29-piece ensembles and led by conductor Chad Kelly.
After a moving night of orchestral magic, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard got into things in full rock style – loud, wild, and full of crowd shenanigans you’d expect to see from a gig in the 80s or 90s. Kicking off with ‘Field Of Vision,’ the band tore through a 20-track set filled with teases, rearrangements of tracks, and all the King Gizz goodness fans could ask for.
This is all to say, King Gizz at the Bowl was absolute insanity. Here’s to the next one.
