Hollywood Stars Quietly Protest ICE At The Golden Globes

Share

The Golden Globes saw a number of stars wear #BeGood badges in protest against the killing of Renee Macklin Good and Keith Porter.

When Jean Smart accepted her third Golden Globe for playing acid-tongued comedienne Deborah Vance in Hacks, eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed a small pin on her dress. The pin read “BE GOOD”, in reference to an ICE member killing 37 year old Renee Macklin Good in Minneapolis last week.

Smart wasn’t alone. Other stars wearing badges that read either “BE GOOD” or “ICE OUT” include Mark Ruffalo, Wanda Sykes, and Natasha Lyonne. The pin represents the #BeGood campaign, an industry initiative to protest ICE killings. The movement formed in the wake of Good’s killing, the seventh slaying by an ICE officer since September.

Speaking on the red carpet, Sykes said, “Of course this is for the mother who was murdered by an ICE agent, and it’s really sad. I know people are out marching and all today, and we need to speak up. We need to be out there and shut this rogue government down, because it’s just awful what they’re doing to people.”

As per People, #BeGood aims to “…honor Renee Macklin Good and Keith Porter while also reminding us what it means to be good to one another in the face of such horror – to be a good citizen, neighbor, friend, ally and human.” Porter was killed by an off-duty ICE officer in Los Angeles on December 31.

“Everyday, everywhere, regular people are being good: keeping kids safe when they walk to school, filming fathers who are being disappeared from their workplaces, donating to fundraisers to support organizations who are keeping us safe,” the #BeGood statement continues. “The #BeGood campaign is launching following reports that 2025 was one of ICE’s deadliest year in two decades, and in response to the current administration’s $100 million wartime recruitment campaign aimed at expanding enforcement capacity. For the past year, the Trump administration has been stretching federal power to punish and intimidate communities, often by turning immigrants into scapegoats and using the Department of Homeland Security as the tip of the spear. ICE is not making our communities safer. They are bringing chaos into our streets, and families, immigrants and U.S. citizens alike, pay the price.”

The #BeGood movement is supported by Marmot, Move On, National Domestic Workers Alliance, and Working Families Power.
