3 Doors Down frontman Brad Arnold has sadly passed at the age of 47, closing the chapter on one of the most recognisable voices of early 2000s mainstream rock.

The band confirmed Arnold’s passing on Saturday, February 7th, sharing the news via social media, Arnold revealed last May (2025) that he was battling clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), the most common form of kidney cancer in adults

“With heavy hearts, we share the news that Brad Arnold, founder, lead singer, and songwriter of 3 DOORS DOWN, passed away on Saturday, February 7th, at the age of 47,” the band wrote.

“With his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer.”

“As a founding member, vocalist, and original drummer of 3 DOORS DOWN, Brad helped redefine mainstream rock music,” the statement continued, crediting his emotionally direct songwriting for resonating with a generation of listeners.

Six times platinum

Arnold co-founded 3 Doors Down as a teenager in 1995, writing the band’s breakout hit ‘Kryptonite’ when he was just 15 years old, the song became an inescapable fixture of the era, helping push their debut album ‘The Better Life’ to six times platinum status and cementing the band’s place in post-grunge radio history.

Across their career, 3 Doors Down sold more than 16 million albums worldwide, earned three Grammy nominations, two American Music Awards, and multiple BMI songwriting honours. Albums including ‘Away From The Sun’, ‘Seventeen Days’, and ‘3 Doors Down’ all debuted strongly on the Billboard charts, while tracks like ‘When I’m Gone’ and ‘Here Without You’ became long-term radio staples (per Blabbermouth).

Following Arnold’s cancer diagnosis in early 2025, the band cancelled all tour commitments, including shows with Creed and festival appearances.

Last month, Arnold marked 10 years of sobriety, previously crediting his Christian faith as central to his recovery.

“I feel like a different person than I did [in 2016] … and it feels so good,” Arnold wrote at the time. “Without question, God took that burden from me.”

“He will be deeply missed and forever remembered,” the band concluded.
