Here’s Your First Look At Nicolas Cage In Spider-Noir!

Share

Down these mean streets a man must swing, as we get our first window on Spider-Noir‘s Chandleresque world.

There’s a whole heap of Spider-Man stuff coming our way. Not only are we getting another Tom Holland-starring live action film in the form of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July – and we should be getting a teaser for that before too long – but there’s the third of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s animated Spidey flicks, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, due in June of 2027. And somewhere in there we’ve got Spider-Noir, which isn’t quite a spin-off from the Verse movies, but may as well be. And today, the good folks at Amazon Prime Video released a salvo of first look images to prime the pump, both in Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color”, as the eight episode series is being released in both formats. Let’s have a look, shall we?

While Nicolas Cage voiced the delightfully hard-boiled Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, he’s not playing the same guy here. He’s hard luck private detective Ben Reilly, who used to be the costumed hero known as The Spider, but hung up his tights after a personal tragedy. As these things tend to go, he’s driven to put the mask back on for the series.

Comics fans will recognise “Ben Reilly” as the name of the Scarlet Spider, a clone of Peter Parker in the mainstream comics continuity whose origins are… complicated. But here he seems to be a more straight forward riff on the ol’ web-head, albeit one whose adventures take place in a 1930s NYC setting.

Another familiar face from the Marvel Universe is Robbie Robertson, played here by Lamorne Morris. Normally J. Jonah Jameson’s right hand man at The Daily Bugle, here he’s a dedicated journalist trying to make it in 1930s New York and help out his mate Ben.

And making her live action screen debut is long time Spider-Man frenemy the Black Cat, here reimagined as Cat, a nightclub chanteuse with her own agenda, as played by Li Jun Li (Sinners).

And just to shake things up a bit we have a new character: Janet (Karen Rodriguez), Ben’s scrappy, sassy secretary, because every private eye needs one of those.

No sign of Brendan Gleeson’s mob boss Silvermane or Jack Huston’s Flint Marko, AKA Sandman, yet, but Cage’s costume is on point:
