When We Were Young Festival shared a statement revealing they’ve cancelled their plans for 2026, but are promising a return in 2027.
The massive nostalgic emo festival, When We Were Young, issued a statement earlier today (February 28), signalling that it will not run this year.
“The songs, the memories, the moments – none of it exists without you,” the festival organisers would write on social media.
“After an unforgettable run in Las Vegas, we’ve decided to take 2026 off to give this festival the care it deserves and to make sure what comes next feels just as special as what came before. When We Were Young Festival will return to Las Vegas in October 2027. Thank you for showing up with your whole hearts every year. This isn’t goodbye – it’s just a pause. We’ll see you in 2027.”
Last year’s When We Were Young would see emo heavyweights like Panic At The Disco, Blink-182, Avril Lavigne and more perform at the Las Vegas Showgrounds for a day full of nostalgic bangers. It would also play host to long-awaited reunions from letlive, Never Shout Never, Jack’s Mannequin, The Cab and The Gaslight Anthem.
2024’s lineup would similarly boast an impressive lineup, featuring My Chemical Romance, who performed the entirety of their breakthrough album Welcome To The Black Parade for the festival. Other bands would also play their landmark albums front to back on the day, with Jimmy Eat World performing their 2001 release Bleed American, A Day To Remember performing Homesick and Dashboard Confessional playing Dusk and Summer.
Emo and metal fans won’t be going without a major festival this year at least, as Sick New World is set to take place later this year with two events at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds and the Texas Motor Speedway on April 25 and October 24, respectively.
System of A Down will headline both festival dates, with Bring Me The Horizon, KoRn, Evanescence and more set for the festival’s Las Vegas date. Deftones, Slayer, Knocked Loose, and more are expected to perform in Texas later in the year.
