Nine Inch Nails Surprise Drop ‘Tron: Ares Divergence’ Featuring New Unreleased and Remixed Tracks

Nine Inch Nails has surprise dropped a new album TRON: Ares Divergence, featuring several unreleased tracks recorded for the sci-fi film and remixes from acclaimed electronic producers.

Nine Inch Nails are taking a victory lap after their Grammy win for TRON: Ares by surprise dropping a new album.

Dubbed TRON: Ares Divergence, the new record features a wide variety of unreleased tracks as well as some remixes from big-name electronic producers, including Boyz Noize, Arca, The Dare, Mark Pritchard and more.

Last year’s original score was the first Nine Inch Nails project from Trent Reznor and co. in years. A return which would be met with wide acclaim, as the group would take home a GRAMMY for Best Rock Song for their track, ‘As Alive As You Need Me To Be‘.

In an interview with Empire ahead of the film’s release, Reznor would reveal that the band had spent “a lot of time thinking about the undertones of what’s happening in the story. The concept of artificial life infused with feelings and emotions and a sense of questioning their purpose and their replaceability, their lack of soul, in some ways. We kind of riffed on that.”

Reznor would also reveal that it was the President of Walt Disney Music, Tom MacDougall, who convinced Reznor and long-time collaborator Atticus Ross to take on the TRON: Ares, and to do it as a reformed Nine Inch Nails.

“Do you think you guys would be interested in scoring Tron?’ He didn’t even finish the sentence, I was like, ‘Fuck yes, we’d want to do that’,” Reznor told Empire. “He said, ‘How would you feel about if it was credited as Nine Inch Nails, versus Trent and Atticus?’ We weren’t expecting to hear that question.”

Despite the film itself receiving lacklustre reviews, nearly all were quick to praise Nine Inch Nails’ score, going so far as to call it the film’s one redeeming feature.
