Alissa White-Gluz has announced a brand new band called Blue Medusa, marking a fresh chapter for the longtime metal vocalist after more than two decades on some of the genre’s biggest stages.
The former Arch Enemy and The Agonist frontwoman revealed the project, choosing International Women’s Day (March 8th) to introduce the lineup and outline the vision behind the new band (per The PRP).
Blue Medusa has been quietly taking shape in recent months, Guitarists Alyssa Day (Mindscar, In Absentia) and Dani Sophia were revealed as core members earlier this year, forming the central trio alongside White-Gluz.
A touring lineup has also been assembled, with Alicia Vigil (DragonForce, Vigil Of War) joining on bass and Delaney Jaster (These Fading Visions) handling drums for live performances.
A New Creative Chapter
White-Gluz explained that Blue Medusa represents a new artistic direction where she can fully explore her creative ideas:
“The year of the snake is finally over – now it’s time to shed the skin. Today, on International Women’s Day, I’m proud to announce my new band: BLUE MEDUSA.”
“After twenty years performing on the world’s biggest stages, I’m entering a new creative chapter. Blue Medusa is the next evolution of everything I’ve been building toward; a project where my full artistic vision can exist without limits.”
What Blue Medusa Will Sound Like
According to White-Gluz, the band will lean heavily into the aggressive side of modern metal while leaving room for deeper lyrical themes and melody.
“You’ll hear blazing guitar solos, cru shing riffs, brutal vocals, fast and aggressive drums, thoughtful melodies, and deeply introspective lyrics layered with meaning.”
The lineup behind Blue Medusa reflects that approach, White-Gluz pointed to the musicians around her as a major part of why the project feels so exciting.
“Blue Medusa features an incredible lineup of musicians:
Alyssa Day – guitar
Dani Sophia – guitar”A Platform For Women In Metal
Announcing the project on International Women’s Day was intentional, White-Gluz says the band is also about continuing to build stronger opportunities for women in heavy music.
“I chose to share this news on International Women’s Day because building stronger platforms for women in heavy music is something I care deeply about. I’ve been carving my own path in this genre for a long time, and I want to help pave the road for the next generation of women who love metal as much as I do.”
“Medusa turned people to stone…I want to pave the road in sapphire.”
First Shows Already Locked In
Blue Medusa will make its live debut later this year, with appearances already confirmed at two of the biggest heavy music festivals in the United States:
“New music is coming soon. First live appearances: Louder Than Life and Aftershock.”
With new music promised soon, Blue Medusa looks set to introduce itself to the metal world sooner rather than later.
