Filter’s ‘The Antidote’ Is Almost Ready To Be Released

Share

Filter are closing in on their next chapter, with frontman Richard Patrick confirming new album ‘The Antidote’ is nearly finished.

Speaking in a recent radio interview, Patrick revealed the follow up to 2023’s ‘The Algorithm’ is deep in its final stages, with only the difficult task of trimming it down left to go (per Blabbermouth).

“’The Antidote’ is pretty much almost done. I’m cutting it down from, like, 18 songs to probably 12. It’s a hard decision because there’s so many great songs on the record. But it’s in the final stages, and I’m super proud of it. It’s really a great record. It’s probably gonna come out this fall.”

That’s a familiar Filter move. Big ideas, cut back into something sharper, if history’s anything to go by, what gets left off might end up just as interesting as what makes the final cut.

Collaboration meets control

While Patrick has always been the driving force behind Filter, ‘The Antidote’ isn’t a solo mission, the record pulls from both self written material and collaborations, particularly with songwriter Sam Tinnesz.

“It’s weird. There’s a song called ‘Snakes In The Grass’, which was entirely by myself. And then there’s songs that I write with Sam Tinnesz. He’s a good friend of mine; he’s one of my best friends. And we wrote a song called ‘Hell In My Head’ as well as another one called ‘Panic Mode’. I just love working with Sam. He’s just a great lyricist. He’s a great songwriter. And I do love collaboration. That’s why I do guest vocal spots with other people. And any opportunity to just make some great art is kind of my M.O.”

That balance has always been part of Filter’s identity, Industrial edges, alt-rock hooks, and just enough unpredictability to keep things from settling.

A legacy that keeps shifting

Patrick’s career has never been static, from his early run with Nine Inch Nails to launching Filter with ‘Short Bus’ and its jagged breakout ‘Hey Man Nice Shot’ (below), he’s spent decades reshaping his sound without completely abandoning it.

‘The Algorithm’ in 2023 leaned into modern production and political tension, the upcoming ‘The Antidote’ suggests something more refined, maybe even more focused, if trimming six tracks is anything to go by.

There’s no official release date locked yet, but a fall (Sep to Nov) release window is on the table.
