Neurosis has surprise dropped their 12th studio album, An Undying Love For A Burning World, and announced Aaron Turner as their new frontman.
Fans of the post-metal group Neurosis are sure to rejoice today, as the beloved group marked their return by surprise dropping a whole new album.
Along with the release of the new album, Neurosis have also announced that Aaron Turner of the sludge metal group Sumac, and the progressive metal group ISIS as their new vocalist and guitarist.
The band have had a quiet hiatus since ousting their former guitarist and frontman Scott Kelly in 2019, after he had admitted to abusing his wife and kids through coercive control.
In 2022, the band shared a joint statement claiming the group was unaware of Kelly’s behaviour behind-the-scenes, and that they would share more about the band’s future in due time.
Now, fans are being rewarded for their patience after a long drought of updates.
An Undying Love For A Burning World marks the band’s 12th studio album and is the long-awaited follow-up to 2016s Fire Within Fires.
The group have also confirmed they’ll be playing their first live shows in years, with returning members vocalist/guitarist Steve Von Till, drummer Jason Roeder, bassist Dave Edwardson, and keyboard player Noah Landis.
“We need this, perhaps more than ever, and we suspect we are not alone,” Neurosis would share in a joint statement. “The trials and tribulations in our personal lives and as a band, combined with simply trying to navigate the insanity of our society, with the stress, anxiety, and isolation that come with it can be excruciating. … This strange, emotionally charged music has always been our method of trying to survive this and this is what we’ve always been singing about.”
Per Rolling Stone, the album was recorded over three weekends at Seattle’s Studio Litho, alongside Turner.
The new frontman would go on to say that “it is an honour and a true pleasure to have been welcomed so warmly into a band that not only shaped my perspective on the limitless possibilities of music – but has lived and exemplified the necessity of upholding creative integrity and camaraderie above all else.”
Neurosis will play their first concert in seven years, headlining Fire in the Mountains, which will be taking place in Blackfeet Nation, Montana in June.
